The 2026 World Cup Barometer by SLC – Third survey shows: Interest yes, World Cup travel no

The Olympic Games have barely ended, and already the next major sporting event is coming into focus: the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. However, for most German fans, the tournament will remain an event to be watched from their living rooms at home. This is shown by the latest “World Cup Barometer 2026” from SLC Management, for which over 6,100 soccer fans were surveyed in February. The study provides a snapshot of the mood ahead of the upcoming World Cup for the third time since November and December 2025.

SLC data on the World Cup in Qatar published in FAZ

The World Cup in Qatar starts this Sunday, but there doesn't seem to be any real World Cup atmosphere yet, because the focus is on many other topics, just not on the sporting aspect. But what does the actual target group at a World Cup, namely the German soccer fans, really think about the World Cup in Qatar?

SLC Management has taken on exactly this task and put this question under the microscope. Over 5600 people, who are fans, customers and those interested in soccer, took part in this survey. The results of the study, which show a different perspective on the interest in the World Cup, were taken up and published by the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
