More than just soccer: the SLC study on regional economic effects for Preussen Münster

"Preussen and Münster that fits" - That was the quintessence of the study by SLC Management on the regional economic effects for PreußenMünster (SCP).

On May 24, 2023, SLC Management together with Ole Kittner (SCP Managing Director Marketing, Strategy & Communications), Dr. Bernward Maasjost (SCP President) and Frank Westermann (SCP Supervisory Board Chairman) presented the remarkable study results in a press conference above the rooftops of Münster. The study showed that Preussen Münster, as a regional league (4th league) club, generates more than 25 million euros annually in regional economic effects for Münster and the region. As a result of promotion to the 3rd league, an increase to 36 million euros is even forecast. Preussen Münster therefore not only takes place on the pitch, but also as an attractive employer, tenant, client for regional companies, retailer, advertising and sponsorship platform and, last but not least, as a bearer of responsibility for social tasks. The city especially benefits from the club in the areas of awareness & image, sales, as well as gastronomy.

The basis of the regional economic study was the 2022/2023 regional league season. As part of the study, a total of 5,240 people, consisting of fans of Preussen Münster as well as sympathizers of other clubs (guest fans), were surveyed in both a regional and Germany-wide study. In addition to the effects that can be measured in monetary terms, the study also looked at the effects that cannot be measured, such as the area of corporate social responsibility.

We want to use this location factor via a close interlocking and are pleased that this effect is demonstrably a win-win situation, because Preussen is also a strong ambassador for the city and offers great opportunities in many areas for different industries and companies to create concrete added value. This study is so valuable because it shows the enormous potential that lies in the cooperation between the club and the city."

Markus Lewe, Mayor of Münster: "What importance SC Preussen Münster has for our city and for the people here, you could see recently at the promotion celebration in the city hall and on the Prinzipalmarkt. The now published study confirms this impression and it makes clear that the city of Münster also benefits economically from the club. Our goal is to further strengthen this effect - for example, by investing in the stadium conversion."

For SC Preussn Münster, we can now give a concrete answer based on our study and say: The effect for the city of Münster is considerable! Through the promotion to the 3rd league, this will also be further strengthened."
