"Year of the Referees" - SLC Management provides groundbreaking data to the DFB through the amateur soccer barometer

The world's largest sports association (7 million members) - the German Football Association DFB - has now officially made 2023 the "Year of the Referee". SLC Management provided the DFB with groundbreaking data and interesting basics on this topic through the referee survey as part of the amateur soccer barometer.

Since October 2021, SLC Management has been conducting the so-called "amateur soccer barometer" as part of the individual Association-Information-System VIS© set up for the German Football Association DFB. Around 8,000 people took part in the current survey of the amateur soccer barometer on the subject of "referees". Both the perspective of active referees and that of other groups in amateur soccer were taken into account.

The "Year of the Referee" proclaimed by the German Football Association (DFB) is concerned, among other things, with the widespread decline in active referees. The SLC referee survey is also intended to make a significant contribution to counteracting this decline in the long term.

85 percent of active referees who took part in the survey cited a lack of respect from spectators as a problem, while 79 percent likewise miss respect and appreciation from players and coaches. 54 percent of the participants stated too little compensation, which is why the Bavarian Football Association BFV now decided to set a clear sign of appreciation. In the "Year of the Referees", the BFV is now putting wood behind the arrow and raises both the money per match management and the expenses. The results of the survey conducted by SLC Management for the BFV also played a significant role in this decision. Incidentally, the BFV recorded a record participation in its own referee survey, which again underlines the relevance of the topic.
"It is of enormous importance for us to know these survey results and thus to tap into the extent to which our chosen course is also followed by our clubs." (BFV President Christoph Kern)

However, the amateur soccer barometer not only highlights the problem areas, but it also highlights the positive aspects of refereeing. 84 percent of the referees name the fun of their work as the greatest motivation, 79 percent the sporting activity. 75 percent particularly appreciate being an active part of soccer. Added to this are the added values for personal development. From the point of view of the target group concerned, it is above all decision-making skills, dealing with people and self-confidence that are promoted.
