STUDY: Fan Return to Stadiums - On the Way to Normality?

Slowly but surely, Bundesliga stadiums are filling up again. After a long period of ghost games, followed by a cautious, gradual return of fans to the stadium, capacity is now being increased again immensely in many places, or capacity restrictions are even being lifted completely. Uniform admission regulations? Not a chance! That's why SLC Management initiated and designed a study right at the start of the pandemic to examine fan attitudes on the subject of a safe return to stadiums. After all, fans are ultimately the target group of discussed concepts, affected by measures and essential for a potential exhaustion of permitted capacities.

SLC Management has been permanently investigating fan behavior and thinking about stadium attendance in times and after times of Corona in a long-term study since the Covid19 pandemic began as part of its data intelligence partnership with the magazine Stadionwelt.

The SLC deals here intensively with the backgrounds as well as with the problem and need analyses and also shows potentials for action and creates conditions for their implementation.

The progress study, which was again published in Stadionwelt, provides data-based and target group-oriented elementary results on, among other things, the fans' desire to return to the stadium, the conditions for a return, reasons from the fans' point of view against a return, as well as insights into the assessment and acceptance of access regulations and individual measures such as an app as an access requirement. The current study results from September 2021 indicate a return to normality - but subject to certain new conditions. So everything back to the old? Not quite: answers are provided by SLC Management's representative progress study.

SLC Managing Director Maximilian Madeja on the significance of the progress study:

"The great advantage of this progress study is that we permanently go directly to the market and collect these special insights. The market is otherwise much too fast-moving for such a study to be conducted only once a year. This allows us to respond better to trends and current issues."

Further, the CEO emphasizes the urgency of such individual studies for clubs and their specific environment with special conditions:

"By looking at the results as a whole, you get an important orientation for assessing the general situation, but it is advisable to take an individual approach for your own club. Depending on the region, stadium and club, the views of the target groups, their needs as well as the acceptance of measures on the ground naturally diverge."

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does the stadium utilization (since Corona) turn out to be problematic at your club?
  • Do uncertainties prevail about the right way back to the "new normal"?
  • Is the path from ghost experience back to fan experience at your club unclear?

Then feel free to contact us, as we can serve you with your individual data and also have the appropriate implementation tool. Within seven days, you will receive a catalog of measures tailored to you and your situation for the implementation of a solution-oriented concept. Our national and international expertise enables us to provide benchmarks for all situations, which is more important today than ever before. Get certainty about your current situation with SLC within the shortest possible time and we will provide you with the immediate approaches for optimization.
