SPORTPLATZWELT LIVE CONGRESS presented by SLC Management // Round-Up to the SLC presentation "Are you still stagnating - or are you already monetizing?"

On the 23rd of May 2023, the first edition of the Sportplatzwelt LIVE Congress presented by SLC Management took place at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne. More than 250 participants from sports authorities, clubs and associations were able to use the specialist congress to exchange valuable experiences, gather ideas and engage in lively discussions.

SLC Management took over as presenting partner the opening lecture of the amateur sports congress with the title "Are you still stagnating - or are you already monetizing?". Prof. Dr. Alfons Madeja (Professor of Business Administration and Sports Management), Maximilian Madeja (Managing Director SLC Management) and Jens Jaschinski (Director Consultancy SLC Management) spoke about value- and data-based club management and the complex question of the value of sport.

Prof. Dr. Alfons Madeja opened the lecture with an appeal to the players in the amateur sports ecosystem to emphasize the value of sport. He spoke about the problems and challenges of the clubs, which have not changed for decades throughout his time as a club expert and are still valid today. These would have to be solved primarily financially and with the support of society. His approach here is to use more sources of funding through modern club management and to place increased emphasis on the topic of marketing and sponsorship.

Maximilian Madeja and Jens Jaschinski continued the presentation with the motto "Turning Data into Value" and showed how important it is for clubs to manage the many different problems with data and analyses as possible solutions and to convert this data into value and ultimately monetize it. A sports club moves a lot for the society and the youth and needs financial stability and a corresponding infrastructure.

"Nowadays, a club is seen by many as a service provider that is expected to provide numerous top-quality services with trained staff at all times with state-of-the-art equipment and for only a small membership fee. Clubs must become aware of their importance and the quality of their services and offerings, know their value and monetize it. Communication is an essential key concept here." (Maximilian Madeja, Managing Director SLC Management)

Jens Jaschinski then presented the Club-Information-System CIS©, which is indispensable for receiving qualified feedback from stakeholders and for club management based on members. He explained that all stakeholders of a club are involved and the club can secure its decisions by this kind of opinion research. In addition, using TS Jahn Munich as a practical example, he also explained that the system is not a pure survey tool, but also includes recommendations for action, benchmarks and consulting through a full service approach. Accordingly, the clubs are not left alone with the data, but receive it processed and analyzed in such a way that they can work directly with it.

Finally, the Smart-Sponsorship-Management SSM© was presented using the example of Post SV Nürnberg. Maximilian Madeja explained that the SSM© can answer the following questions, among others:

  • What assets does my club have and what are they worth?
  • Which sponsoring partners fit my club?
  • How do I show sponsors the success of their commitment?

The SSM© helps clubs to professionalize their sponsorship processes and thus increase revenue. In addition, Jaschinski stressed that SLC Management offers "help for self-help" to be sustainabily successful as a club, and does not take on the role of a marketer.

Through the practical example it was made clear that a professional club management is very possible and above all necessary, especially not to stagnate as a club in the current numerous crises.
