Car beats public transport: The #study on transport infrastructure in the Bundesliga

As part of its data intelligence partnership with Stadionwelt, SLC Management took a close look at the Bundesliga's transport infrastructure for the second time for the current issue of Stadionwelt INSIDE 5/2021. After all, an attractive stadium experience not only includes an entertaining game and a stadium bratwurst, but getting to and from the stadium also plays a major role in fan customer satisfaction. Overcrowded public transport, traffic jams, delays or too few parking spaces - getting there can be a real hurdle for fans.

Infrastructure

For this reason, it is essential for every club to know its situation in terms of transport infrastructure, but also to know how the fans cope with the conditions, as it is the fans who are affected. In order to be able to offer spectators a more attractive stadium experience, a precise analysis of the status quo is needed, as well as feedback and suggestions for optimization from spectators.

A total of 5,264 fans of the 18 Bundesliga clubs were surveyed as part of the short study. Among other things, the survey looked at the mode of travel, parking availability, directional signage, influences of the Covid pandemic on travel behavior, and potential for optimization in the areas of sustainability and digitization in relation to transport infrastructure.

Travel to the stadium.

As in April 2020, cars were the most popular mode of travel (54,0%). However, in contrast to the last survey, this percentage has increased, which can also be attributed to the lower risk of infection during the Corona pandemic. This is because 25.8% of respondents said they now prefer private transportation instead of public transportation because of the pandemic.

The Bundesliga fans rated the journey to the stadium on average with the mark 2.2 (good). VfL Wolfsburg did particularly well in this ranking with a score of 2.02 (1 being very good, 5 being deficient) , closely followed by FC Bayern Munich and Hertha BSC. However, every second participant in the survey also sees potential for optimization, particularly in the area of digital solutions when it comes to traffic concepts (46.4%).

Individual data for target group-specific solutions

SLC managing director Maximilian Madeja explains:

More than ever, it is necessary, but also possible, for those responsible for clubs to develop solutions dynamically and based on target groups. Keyword: pre-controlling - you do not have to guess which investments will actually bear fruit in the end in whatever form.

To find out which optimizations your fans would like to see for the respective traffic infrastructure and where there is potential for optimization, feel free to contact us any time, because we have your individual data ready. A general overview of the results of the Bundesliga gives a rough orientation to assess the situation, but it is advisable to know your individual data. Because depending on the region, stadium and club, the views and needs of the target groups diverge.

This could also be interesting for you.

To regularly receive individual data from your target group, on exactly the topics that concern you, the Club Information System CIS is the optimal solution. CIS is a flexible business system that helps clubs optimize their club success through representative, reputable market research and consulting.
